This is a monthly update where I share what I’ve been working on recently. For the previous installment, check out my November 2023 Update.
Happy new year! I hope you had a great holiday season. I took a little time off to spend time with my family, but I’m excited to get back to work.
In December I shifted my focus towards marketing, but did ship one thing that people have been asking for for a long time.
Retro redesign
When I originally built Teaminal’s sprint retrospective feature, I shoehorned it into the same “card with comments” design as everything else, but it always threw people off. Every other retro app shows the prompts as columns with responses as cards, like a kanban board, so that’s what people expect - and now that’s what they’ll get in Teaminal!
I redesigned the retro feature to use a multi-column layout, and on the main feed, the card that’s shown there is basically a preview of what you’ll get if you click through. The card view does still work great on mobile though, so I kept it for small screens.
I wrote stuff
In addition to the retro redesign, I wrote some things!
Most notably for those of you reading a monthly update, I wrote up my 2023 Year In Review, where I talk about everything that happened over the year, how I’m feeling, share some numbers, and set goals for the new year.
And I actually got a jump on one of those goals and published my first four non-update blog posts this month:
- We Found the 9 Best Sprint Planning Tools for Efficient Workflows
- How We Optimize Agile Workflows to Boost Productivity
- Our Expert Guide to Backlog Refinement for Better Agile Workflows
- The 3 Best Online Planning Poker Tools (Plus 18 More We Looked At)
Alternative pages
In a similar vein, I also published my first few competitor comparison pages this month:
I expect there will be a lot more of these in the next couple months, because when I started doing keyword research, competitor names are some of the lowest-difficulty for the search volume they receive.
Next month
January will be another marketing-heavy month - I’m planning to publish 6 more blog posts, 10 more alternative pages, re-record my demo videos, make improvements to documentation, and try to get into the app stores for all my existing integrations.
I also had some bugs that I wanted to get to, but I don’t think it’s very realistic that I’ll get to those as well.
Update: The January 2024 Update is the next post in this series.
