This is a monthly update where I share what I’ve been working on recently. For the previous installment, check out the June 2024 Update.
In July I shipped a few new features and improvements, which felt great, and growth was basically steady from June, which was nothing to sneeze at!
Hidden Poker Votes
When I originally built the planning poker feature, I wanted to make it as simple as possible, so after you submit your vote, you can immediately see the votes of your teammates.
This month I got a feature request to allow for more of a true planning poker experience, where votes are hidden until after everyone’s voted and you choose to reveal them, so I added that as an option.
The option is called “Reveal votes after voting”, and it’s enabled by default to keep the current simplified behavior.
Streamlined Navbar
I also removed extraneous elements from the navbar, so now it only shows the notifications icon and the settings dropdown. Previously there were links to the action items and reporting pages, but they got very little use and added clutter.
I also took the opportunity to add a dropdown for notifications, whereas previously clicking the notifications icon just took you to the “View all notifications” page.
Fixes & Improvements
In addition to the items above, I also shipped a few small fixes and improvements:
- Added a “request an invite” signup flow for users who want to join an existing team
- Made it easier for users to invite their teammates by always showing the invite form on the home page
- Fixed issue where pokers were using the user’s settings instead of the poker’s settings
- Tweaked button text on login, signup, and SSO pages
- Added tooltip to @mentions with the user’s display name
- Improved internal admin tools
Business Update
July was another great month for account and user signups! I slightly beat the numbers from June, which was the previous all-time record. User signups are still driven mostly by a handful of teams adding users, but account signups have also been solid!
I’m still at 32 blog posts for the year, so my goal of publishing 100 posts this year feels like it’s slipping away. I’m going to lower the goal to 52 to be achievable again and try to get back into the rhythm of publishing.
Next Month
I want to add weekly digest emails to Teaminal so you can see what your team’s been up to even if you don’t check the app that regularly. I also want to make some improvements to the retro board, but in particular I want to handle lots of recent activity better. For instance, if the team closed 50+ Jira issues, don’t just show a massive list like I do now.
